Abstract
We give an explicit construction of the quantum 6- j symbols of U q sl(3) via the Young projection operators. The TQFT analogous to the Turaev-Viro state sum model is constructed, with the developed graphical techniques providing easy proofs for the required q6- j symbol identities. Finally we show that this U q sl(3) state sum model may be interpreted as 3D quantum gravity coupled to certain higher spin fields.
