Abstract
AbstractNearly every-one will agree that J. van Krimpen was one of the great typographers and type-designers of the century. At the same time, however, he was a man of wide reading, a lettré in the best sense of the word, with a discriminating taste, particularly in the field of poetry. On behalf of several of his literary friends and of older poets he admired, he took great pains to produce their work in excellent editions, not only in his capacity of typographer but also as an editor. This essay tries to reconstruct Van Krimpen's activities, his personal relations with a number of authors and his literary preferences. Hopefully it will provide an additional clue to his character and personality.
