Abstract

Recent population trends in Ireland are analyzed using data from official sources including the 1991 census. The components of recent population change are first examined. This is followed by an examination of the spatial patterns of change which result from their interaction and by a consideration of the changes which have occurred in the age composition of the population examining how these adjustments have varied across the state. Since the demographic outcome from the 1980s is different in many respects from that of the 1970s some of the key areas of contrast will be noted throughout. (EXCERPT)
