Abstract
The objective of this study was to conduct the Turkish adaption of the Six-Nine Years Form of the Multidimensional Neglectful Behavior Scale-Child Report (MNBS-CR) and to assess its psychometric features. The study group consisted of 328 children (161 girls and 167 boys) between six-nine years old who were drawn from four separate primary schools in Ankara and Antalya, Turkey. In the validity study, the analyses were performed separately for the Father and Mother forms of the measure. For the Mother Form, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the core neglect sub-dimensions showed six constructs and 29 items, while five constructs and 27 items were shown by the Father Form CFA. Both of the Forms were found to be significantly associated (p < 0.05) with social desirability and depression in the criterion-related validity analysis. In the reliability analysis, the KR-20 coefficients for the total score of neglect were found to be .84 for the Mother Form and .85 for the Father Form. The results of the study indicated that the Turkish version of the 6–9 Years Form of the MNBS-CR can be considered as a valid and reliable measure for the assessment of child neglect in Turkish children between six and nine years of age.
