Abstract

The effect of the tube length on the thermodynamic stabilities of finite-length (1,1)–(5,5) armchair carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were examined by means of topological resonance energy (TRE). In result, it was found that the topological resonance energy per electron (TREPE) values oscillate with the increase of the tube length. These oscillations of TREPE have the period 3. In this sense, these oscillations are very similar to the oscillations of the HOMO-LUMO gap found earlier.
