Abstract
We report the operation of the first tapered wiggler free electron laser oscillator. The laser operated at 1.6 μm output with a peak power of 1.3 MW. With the wiggler taper adjusted to 0, 1 and 2%, extraction efficiencies of 0.4, 1.1 and 1.2%, respectively, were obtained.
