Abstract
There is no greater challenge today for engineering management than in the municipal field. Most municipal engineering work by private consultants is directly initiated and controlled by Municipal Engineers. The staffs of municipal engineering departments do much engineering work. Municipal Engineers and Public Works Directors must be involved in the conception of such work plus follow the construction and then maintain the facilities. They must do this plus all the many other maintenance and operation functions that serve urban citizens. The planning, organizing, controlling, directing, and coordination of these activities in a pleasing and economical way involves engineering management at its best.
