Abstract

With per capita meat consumption soaring, the meat industry has become one of the main factors in climate change. The reason for this is that countries tend to consume more meat and dairy products as their average incomes rise: animal products are among the first things people spend money on once their basic needs are met. The knock-on effect of this 'nutrition transition' on globalgrain supplies in developing countries is becoming highly significant.
