Abstract

The use of total dose iron infusion in anaemic patients its an effective means of correcting iron deficiency anaemia and a rapid method of replenishing depleted iron stores. Two hundred ante‐natal patients including 35 with associated β‐thalassaemia received intravenous iron dextran after careful preliminary investigations. There were no serious side effects and a significant rise in haemoglobin concentration was achieved in both groups of patients.
