Abstract

The results obtained by radiumtherapy alone in 32 cases of inoperable mammary carcinoma (seen in the Radiological Department of the University in Milan from 1.1.1940 to 31.12.1952) are reported. The early results may be summarized as follows: diminution of the neoplastic bulk until the clinical disappearence; increased mobility of the neoplasm; size reduction and augmented mobility of the metastasized lymph nodes; reduction of cutaneous infiltration and nipple retraction; progression of the cutaneous ulceration. The late results may be summarized in 8 survival cases out of 24 ones followed for 3 years; and in 2 survival cases out of 11 ones followed for 5 years.
