Abstract
Eighteen cases of gonococcal vulvovaginitis in children were treated with estradiol benzoate by implanting a pellet representing 90,000 International units in the fat of the buttock. Within an average of 8.3 days after the implantation squamous epithelial cells began to appear. Within an average of 13.6 days after the implantation all cases showed squamous epithelial cells and negative smears for the gonococcus. No recurrences of the infection have occurred to date. One patient had slight vaginal bleeding on two occasions. Four othersshowed moderate breast enlargement, and one of these developed a few pubic hairs.
