Abstract

Objective To evaluate the feasibility and clinical efficacy of scleral graft or combined with autologous limbal transplantation for the treatment of peripheral corneal perforation with defect of tissue. Methods Twelve eyes of 12 inpatients with peripheral corneal perforating wound in our hospital from August 1992 to February 2013 were retrospectively analyzed.Seven patients received scleral graft transplantation only, and 5 patients received preserved scleral graft combined with autologous limbal transplantation. The follow-up period was at least 12 months after the transplantation.Postoperative visual acuity and complications were studied in the follow-up period. Results All perforations(12 eyes) were closed, no significant complication occurred during follow-up period, and visual functions were improved. Conclusion Either scleral graft or combined with autologous limbal transplantation for the treatment of peripheral corneal perforation may be a new effective method for the treatment of emergent peripheral corneal perforation and defect. Key words: Wound, perforating, peripheral cornea; Defect, tissue; Transplantation, scleral graft, limbus, autologous
