Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of phacoemulsification combined with implantation of IOL and pars plana vitreous aspiration in the treatment of ciliary block glaucoma after trabeculectomy. Methods Ten eyes of ten cases of ciliary block glaucoma with cataract after trabeculectomy were treated in our hospital. All the 10 eyes received phacoemulsification with implantation of IOL combined with pars plana vitreous aspiration. After 4-6 months of follow-up, the visual acuity, intraocular pressure, anterior chamber depth, anterior chamber angle and postoperative complications were analyzed. Results After surgery the visual acuity, intraocular pressure, anterior chamber depth, and anterior chamber angle in the ten patients were improved by different degrees. Iris synechia occurred in one eye. Two eyes with exudtive papillary membrane had undergone Nd: YAG laser capsulotomy on the 10th day after operation. One eye with shallow anterior chamber and high IOP (28.0 mmHg), with negative responding to mydriatic and corticosteroids, underwent Nd: YAG laser periphery capsulotomy and hyaloidectomy on the 5th day after operation and the IOP was in good control after 6 months follow-up. Conclusion Phacoemulsification combined with implantation of IOL and pars plana vitreous aspiration is effective in the treatment of ciliary block glaucoma.
