The Treatment of Albanian Language Phonemes in the Field of Semantics

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to describe and analyze the Albanian language phonemes in the field of Semantics. If we see things from a retrospective point of view, in the achievements of the Albanian Linguistics we notice a steady development of the Semantic theory in distinguishing phonic features. This is, precisely, the reason why in this study a contrastive approach will be given regarding Semantics and phonic features, as well as, their treatment. The corpus of the words has been selected on the basis of homonymous words, which represent a chance to verify, with the help of experimental phonetics, specifically Praat, the phonic features regarding accent as a key element in the functional and meaningful distinction of the word. The findings of our measurements lead us to the conclusion that the phonic traits for discerning accent are: intensity, height, and length, which, on the other hand, are the main scope of this paper. The study at hand tries to give an overview of their treatment, however modest it may be.
