Abstract
Red mud is waste product ongmating at alumina production. Red mud disposals are very harmfull for environment mainly for its alcalic water. We have tested to apply roasting process for treatment of red mud with purpose to extract its iron content in powder form. We have tested optimal conditions for maximal roasting efficiency, which are as follows: coke amount 10 w.%, chlorinating agent ammonium chloride 4 w.%, roasting temperature 1000 cc. We have determined grain sizes, specific surfaces and morphology of obtained iron. Iron is suitable for next powder metallurgical treatment and roasting residue for next treatment and extraction of next mud components.
