Abstract

Librarians advocating a conservative, even reactionary, stance relative to the emerging integrated digital communication environment place the future of library and information services at risk. Confronting the conservative position, this article argues that librarians must consider opportunity costs linked to a “bookish” perspective and re-vision the library in the digital era.
