Abstract

1. 1. The vermiform appendix is a hollow viscus and like all hollow viscera can be ruptured by external as well as internal force. 2. 2. The meso-appendix is a similar structure to the mesocolon and mesentery, any of which may be torn or rent by external violence. 3. 3. The blood supply to the appendix may be occluded by external trauma, causing appendicitis or gangrene.
