Abstract

The transport service adaptor is an attempt to implement the functions required for a standard transport service interface into an intelligent high performance network interface device and therefore to reduce the host device software requirement. In this paper the details of the hardware and software that comprise the transport service adaptor and the physical and logical levels of the host device interface are described. Brief details are given of the local area network to which the transport service adaptor connects, together with the facilities that the network makes available.
