Abstract

A method of calculating the diffuse light transmission of sloping transparent roofs is given and the results of such calculations are compared with experimental measurements on acrylic sheet. The need to recognize the non-uniform luminance distribution of the light from an overcast sky is demonstrated; it is also shown that light reflected from the underside of a pitched roof makes a significant contribution to the total illumination.
