Abstract

In his description of the fragment Paris, BnF, Arabe 330, f. 11 to 19, Michele Amari stated that it was written in a of the Hidjâz, verging towards the Kufic script and suggested a date in the third century AH/ninth century AD. In this chapter the author prepares a new catalogue of the Qurʾanic manuscripts in the Bibliotheque Nationale, he came across the nine folios, unique of their kind in the Parisian collection, and was in his turn puzzled by their script and illumination. Before examining some of the Damascus and Fustat fragments in O I script, the author briefly draws attention to a situation which may be compared to that described in the previous chapter, namely the coexistence of two formats of muṣḥaf, vertical and oblong.Keywords:Arabe 330; Damascus; Fustat fragments; Hidjâz; Kufic script; Michele Amari; muṣḥaf; O I script; Qurʾanic manuscripts
