Abstract

This paper examines the potential effects of technology transfers between for-profit and not-for-profit firms. The paper first examines the relevant literature to determine differences between the two types of firms. Within this context, the aspects of the theory of technology relevant to technology transfers are then developed. Finally, the transfer of technology is examined in an environmental and a charitable organization. It is concluded that, because of fundamental differences between for-profit and not-for-profit firms, technology transfers must be examined with a critical eye to be sure that the overall consequences for both employees and external constituents are understood.
