Abstract

The thesis of this study is that Matt 4:15 and 19:1 represent Matthaean redaction and reflect the geographical perspective of the first gospel. According to this perspective, Matthew's gospel was composed eastward of the Jordan River and not in Syrian Antioch. From Matt 4:25 and other less direct evidence, the study proposes the Decapolis as a likely region of composition.
