Abstract

Often theories for thin elastic rods are generated from the equations of three dimensional elasticity by employing infinite series expansions in terms of the coordinates transverse to the long axis of the rod. We provide an example of how such a series solution for the torsion of a limacon fails to converge everywhere in the cross-section.
