Abstract

ABSTRACT Faculty publication in Open Access (hereafter OA) journals in the sciences presents reputational risk for both faculty authors and affiliated institutions. Some OA titles are from problematic or even predatory publishers, suspect cases disappear the farther one goes up the US News and World Report (hereafter USNWR rankings. Publications from schools ranked 1st-5th, account for 79,853 of the grand total of 89,294.) PLOS ONE, which attracted 35,978 papers, is by far, the most common Gold OA outlet for work by the top USNWR schools.
