Abstract

The aim of this article is to apply critical theories of popular music advanced by Theodor Adorno to the interpretation of popular music in southern Africa. Working with some of the songs sung by a Zambian singer by the name of Jordan Katembula aka JK, the article shows some of the ways in which Adorno's theories can be used to understand the popular music genre as it relates to this Zambian singer.
