Abstract

Wojciech Zalewski, Stanford University Libraries' Curator Emeritus for Slavic and East European Collections, recalls significant people and events in his career, which spanned the years 1971-1999. He also discusses the many areas in which changes occurred during these years, including the antiquarian book trade; Western book dealers who left the business, others who struggled and succeeded, and new book businesses that arose; book exchanges; the birth of American Slavic librarians' organizations; and the beginning of true professional contacts between Western Slavic librarians and librarians in the region.
