Abstract

Since the formalization of radiology residency training programs in the post–World War II era, technological advancements in the specialty have coincided with increased training length and emphasis on subspecialization [1,2]. Currently, 95% of radiology residents pursue subspecialty training in the form of a fellowship, typically 1 year in duration [3]. It is no longer a question as to if a resident will pursue a fellowship but a matter of which fellowship and for how many years. Six or more years of graduate medical education in radiology is the norm for trainees and typically the expectation of the practices and departments hiring them.
