Abstract
Loop patches produced by cyclic deformation often have an elongated shape. The elongation aspects inferred from observations in the literature on f.c.c. single crystals and the elongation direction identified for h.c.p. titanium and zirconium are shown to be consistent with recent proposals to explain the orientations of dislocation structures consisting of dipole loops.
