Abstract

The quest for improving the quality of education is a never-ending, never-resting engine that drives nations, lawmakers, educators, critics, and researchers to seek and recommend ways to do better. Indeed, it is possible to discern global patterns such as the development of common language, directions of action, and educational initiatives which combined may be called the third wave of educational reform. Characterized by the infusion of learning skills and education for the active citizenship expected of the students after graduation, the changes of the third wave reform comprises novel ways of thinking more than a set of practical guidelines for immediate execution. The process of change is an expression of an educational theory that challenges traditional learning patterns as well as a societal need to adjust to a changing reality in the labor market and youth culture.
