Abstract

The third spectrum of cadmium was observed in the region 2100 Å-500 Å on a 6.65 m and a 10.7 m normal incidence vacuum spectrograph. The sources used were a triggered spark and a sliding spark. All levels of the 4d95s, 4d95p, 4d85s2, 4d96s, 4d95d, 4d97s and 4d96d configurations except the 1S0 levels in the 4d85s2, 4d95d and 4d96d configurations have been determined. The parametric level fitting calculations support the analysis. The new value of the ionization potential of Cd III, calculated from the 4d9ns series (n = 5, 6 and 7) is 302 200 cm-1 (37.46 eV). 266 lines have been classified in the Cd III spectrum in the region 2101 Å-677 Å, 155 of which are new lines.
