Abstract

The third order nonlinear susceptibility X (3) in CdS 0.9Se 0.1 doped glasses CS 3–68 and OG 530 has been investigated by phase conjugation, produced by degenerate four wave mixing of low power picosecond laser pulses at 532 nm. The magnitude, the phase and the response time of X (3) have been determined as well as their laser exposure dependence. Similar commercial glasses have been investigated and show a large spread of their nonlinear susceptibility, ranging between -10 -8 and -10 -7 esu.
