Abstract

The thermomagnetic force exerted on a disk with surface perpendicular to the heat flux has been measured in the gases CO, N2, HD, and CH4 for conditions approximating those assumed by recent theory. Comparison is made with theory and previous experimental work, and the thermomagnetic force is shown to depend upon the surface composition of the disk.
