Abstract

The thermodynamic activity of Mn in Pt-Mn alloys has been measured in the temperature range 1300 to 1600 °C and the composition range 0.07 ≤ NMn ≤ 0.33 by equilibrating Pt-Mn foils with solid MnO under atmospheres of fixed oxygen pressure. The results obtained differ from those of the two previous investigations of this system. Partial and integral free energies, enthalpies and entropies are derived. The densities of Pt-Mn alloys have been determined by measurement of lattice parameters.
