Abstract

Objective To study the therapeutic effect of Typha angustifolia external application on patients with the third degree pressure sores,then to expand the therapeutic range of Typha angustifolia and search a new treatment for pressure sores.Methods Fifry cases of spinal cord injury with pressure sores were included from Jan 2006 to Aug 2008.These cases were randomly divided into experimental group (treated with Typha angustifolia) and control group (treated with benzalkonium bromide).Results The cure rate of experimental group was 75%,and that of control group was 36% (P=0.0060).The total effective rate of experimental group was 100%,while that of control group Was 77% (P=0.0028).The average healing time was shortened obviously in the experimental group compared to the control group,and there was a remarkable difference between the two groups.Conclusions The therapeutic effect of Aquatic plant Typha angustifolia on pressure sores is significantly better than that of control group.
