Abstract

Electrostatic surface waves in a smoothly inhomogeneous plasma contained in a waveguide are considered. For the plasma with a linear-constant density profile, four types of surface waves are demonstrated for various wave-number regions. The existence conditions, the complex dispersion relations, and the structures of such waves are determined. Complex frequencies of weakly damped surface waves are obtained for the plasma with an arbitrary density profile in the long-wavelength approximation.
