Abstract
The scattering of neutrons by deuterons at energies below 3.5 MeV has been investigated in an approximation including the effects of both the tensor force and the distortion of the deuteron by the neutron. The distortion is found to be small at these energies in the doublet state, but not in the quartet state. Angular distribution and polarization curves for the neutron are given as a function of energy, and the second order spin moment of the deuteron calculated at 3.25 MeV neutron energy. Agreement with experiments where these exist is reasonable. Polarizations of the order of 10% are predicted.
