Abstract

For the past two decades there has been much talk about the decadence of the theater in Spain. Although at the peak of the past season there were seventeen theaters operating in Madrid, from time to time another is lost, either being razed to make way for a new office building or being converted into a movie house. It is surprising that even that many manage to stay in business, for with few exceptions the audiences are miserably small.
