Abstract

It seems rather strange that the average clinician readily accepts the need for functional testing of various organs, such as the liver and kidney, and yet has not to any great extent demanded lung function tests. However, there is a growing awareness of the need for these, and pulmonary function units are being established with everincreasing frequency. In larger centres trained technicians do the routine testing, but in smaller units the physiotherapist usually accepts this responsibility.
