Abstract

Abstract The terminology of proven and possible glaciogenic sediments is briefly reviewed. It is suggested that such terms as mixtite, diamictite, tilloid, pseudotillite, and others should not be used in describing tillite‐like sediments. Terms such as breccia and conglomerate seem more appropriate. It is suggested that the genetic term tillite should not be used in formal stratigraphic nomenclature. The non‐genetic terms breccia, conglomerate and formation are preferred for use in formal stratigraphic nomenclature.
