Abstract

This paper presents some ideas of how it would be possible to enable the integration of inland waterway transport in the intermodal supply chain. Taking into account that the intermodal transport may be interpreted as a chain of actors who supply a transport service, inland navigation can play a crucial role in increasing supply chain service performance. In order to overcome the obstacles related to the inter-connection of the river freight transport with other ways of transport it is necessary to reorganise the entire European market of the IWT corridors.
