Abstract

Lipoinfiltration is a new technique for transplanting subcutaneous tissue within a patient's body for the purpose of making lasting structural improvements. In this article, the technique is used to support and fill the periorbital region for the creation of healthy looking eyes, replacing traditional surgeries that resect and suspend the eyelid tissue. The technique allows the surgeon to correct such varied conditions as the stigmata of hyperthyroid eye disease, ectropion, tear-trough deformities, and the scleral show often present after blepharoplasty. Lipoinfiltration into the forehead is shown to provide an effective lift of the eye brows and lids without cutting. The technique of harvesting, transfer, and placement by infiltration was developed by the author in over 7 years of experience with lipoinfiltration to more than 1000 body areas. Preoperative planning and postoperative course are described, and careful photographic documentation is emphasized. The author submits this technique as an adjunct to and replacement of more familiar periorbital surgeries.
