Abstract

Data on the floras of quarries from different sites in the Russian Far North are presented. Thirty‐two quarries with different substrate textures were studied (ranging from sandy‐loamy to stony) ‐17 in northwestern Siberia and 15 in Chukotka. The paper presents a complete list of vascular plants found in the quarries, and analyzes the taxonomic diversity of quarry vegetation and its relationship to disturbed‐area size, age since abandonment, and type of substrate texture. It appears that the highest level of taxonomic diversity is typical of quarries with rubbly substrates, and the lowest level with quarries with sandy surfaces.
