The taxonomic and cytogenetic implications of the problem of naming amphiploids of Triticum and Secale

Abstract

A brief review of names which have been applied to hybrids between Triticum and Secale is given. Although Triticosecale has priority over Triticale it is proposed to conserve the latter because of its common usage in the past and for the sake of stability. Reasons are given for naming the amphiploid species and for applying hybrid formulae to F1 hybrids and their segregates.
