Abstract

This paper describes the task content of French employment using vacancies posted over the period 2010 to 2019, and employment stocks available in administrative matched employer-employee data and Labor Force Surveys over the same period. We confirm that French jobs feature more non-routine analytical and interpersonal tasks over time, and less routine manual and cognitive tasks. There is no substantial trend in non-routine manual. We further estimate the returns to non-routine tasks (analytical and interpersonal) on posted wages and find that the returns amount to around 2-5\%. We provide measures of task-content by occupation in international classification (ISCO-08) and in French classifications (ROME, PCS, and PCS-ESE).
