Abstract
The isospin properties of the giant dipole resonance (GDR) built on states with isospin T = T z + 1 are discussed. Results of a shell-model calculation with realistic interactions for dipole transitions to various low-lying states in 6Li, 6He, 14N and 14C are presented. The T = T z + 2 component of the GDR in 14N decaying to the 0 + T = 1 state is predicted at the surprisingly low energy E x = 26.0 MeV.
