Abstract

Abstract Two species of Coenites EICHWALD, C. repens (WAHLENBERG) and C. hennigi n.sp. are described. The structure of the skeleton has been studied using the light microscope microscope and scanning electron micrographs. The structure of the skeleton shows that a classifiation of Coenites among the tabulate corals can no longer be maintained. Instead the genus belongs to the phylum Bryozoa. Coenites is here referred to the order Cystoporata ASTROVA. The structure of the lunarium in Cystoporata and Lichenoporidac (Cyclostomata) is briefly discussed.
