Abstract

The universal retention index has been developed on the basis of a critical analysis of the forms of chromatographic retention data presentation. Methods are presented for the determination of the universal retention index. The advantages of the universal retention index system in the evaluation of the selectivity and classification of stationary phases and in the determination of the composition of binary and polynary stationary phases are discussed. The thermodynamic aspect of the suggested system of chromatographic retention data presentation is also considered.
