Abstract

The possibility of using the method of impregnation of non-weaved viscose material by mixed solution of zirconium oxynitrate and yttrium nitrate to synthesize ZrO2-Y2O3 ceramic fibers was studied in this work. The method allowed obtaining ceramic fibers with a diameter of 10 µm and a length of 100 µm. The optimal concentration of the working solution for the synthesis of fibers was determined and it was 75 g L−1 (in terms of oxides sum). It was necessary to carrying out the drying process of viscose material under tension state after impregnation. Ceramic fibers synthesized by this method can be using as reinforcing elements of oxide ceramics ZrO2-7 % Y2O3. Based on results of bending tests, flexural strength of such composite was 3.5 MPa.
