The synthesis of palladium-gold and platinum-gold bimetallic complexes based upon tripod tridentate phosphine and arsine ligands

Abstract

The planar complexes MLCl 2 [M = Pd or Pt; L = MeC(CH 2PPh 2) 3, MeC(CH 2AsPh 2) 3, MeC(CH 2AsMe 2) 3, MeC(CH 2SMe) 3 or MeC(CH 2SeMe) 3] have been prepared. In all cases spectroscopic data show that the tripod ligands are coordinated as cis bidentates. The complexes of MeC(CH 2PPh 2) 3 and MeC(CH 2AsPh 2) 3 react with AuCl(SMe 2) in CH 2Cl 2 to form bimetallics MLAuCl 3 with the gold coordinated to the third donor group. All five tridentates react with Au(SMe 2)Cl or Au(tetrahydrothiophen)Cl to form L(AuCl) 3 complexes.
