Abstract

THE SYNTHESIS OF l-ASCORBIC ACID BY THE ALBINO RAT

Highlights

  • Ascorbic acid synthesis by chloretone-treated rats of the Wistar strain has been investigated by means of radioactive tracer techniques

  • In the course of this investigation radioactive ascorbic acid was prepared biosynthetically, and methyl-labeled chloretone was synthesized by the Grignard reaction

  • Following the administration of labeled glucose, approximately 0.3 per cent conversion to ascorbic acid was observed within a period of 24 hours
